Aronia

Small berry with a big effect

The aronia berry is one of the most nutritionally valuable berries in our culture. The effect of its health-promoting ingredients such as bioflavonoids and antioxidants as well as anthocyanidins against cancer has been proven in clinical studies.

This high-quality wild fruit is grown on plantations for industrial use as juice or fruit spread. As this interesting and now rare fruit is only grown on a few plantations, the berries are particularly valuable and fetch good market prices.

Aronia are robust, hardy plants that tolerate almost all soils. They are self-fertile, can be harvested after two years and have a useful life of around twenty years. As they are virtually immune to pests and diseases, they generally do not need to be sprayed or treated in any other way. The bushes are harvested mechanically using (currant) vibrating machines. Yields of well-growing varieties are around 17 kilos per plant. The juice yield of the berries is almost 80 percent.
