CRATAEGUS monogyna

2 to 5 m tall, well-branched and loose-growing shrub with thorns 2 to 2.5 cm long: leaves 3- to 7-lobed, deeply cut; flowers white appearing in May/June; fruits oval to round, rather changeable, pea-size - an undemanding plant for primary vegetation, builds an impenetrable hedgerow, serves well as wind protector, for greenery and for stabilising debris grounds, or sandy and loamy soils, nesting sites for small animals, also suitable as honey-producing plant or for bird protection.
