STAPHYLEA pinnata

2 to 5 m tall, upright-growing shrub; leaves vivid green, somewhat bluish underneath; flowers white to yellowish-white, borne in May/June in hanging panicles, with a weak smell of coconut flakes; fruits as blown-up capsules, up to 5 cm large, whitish-green, with nut-like hard, brown seeds, rather sweet, edible in late autumn - a good easily grown ornamental shrub or as specimen, equally good for hedges, etc. S. Zone 5b.
