Berrykings

Due to the good taste raspberries and blackberries apply as "Queen of the berries". They are used as fresh produce for human consumption or as raw materials for the processing industry (jams, juices). They are suitable also for the deep freeze.

Plantations benefit especially from the new varieties of autumn raspberries. These are robust against rod and so far also root diseases, maggot free and have a long harvest period so that constantly fresh berries can be harvested. Until about 20 years ago especially 'Zefa 3' was common to the autumn harvest. By the late 1980s varieties like 'Autumn Bliss' (= 'Blissy' ®) and her yellow fruit "sister" ' Golden Bliss' are established. New to the market are ' Sonia Top', 'Polka' and 'Pokusa' which are compared to ´Autumn Bliss´an improvement about flavor and fruit size.

The culture of blackberries took place in the 19th century. Several wild shapes were used as the starting point. They have no high demands on the site and prefer sunny sheltered locations. The harvest volume is comparable to that in raspberries (100 dt / ha). Varieties which are suitable for cultivation are profitable, robust, with large fruits and good taste.
