Elderberry: Special varieties for plantations

Elderberry is more than just a niche: the cultivation has expanded while the demand for special elderberry products made of flowers and fruits have increased. So far, especially the crop yield was in focus of the variety recommendations. But increasingly important criteria when choosing a variety became the type of ingredients, yield behavior, maturation, trickle of umbels and healthfulness.

Due to the many years of experience 'Haschberg' has prevailed in Austria and Germany as standard. The variety ´ Haidegg 17 ´ is universally applicable and has large umbels with large berries. The Danish variety ´Sampo´ is characterised by very uniform umbel maturity, trickle strength and health. Their early maturity proves to be beneficial in climatically later areas and in areas with higher rainfall in September.
